In my worst pessimistic moments it feels to me like a few of us managed to convince the remainder of us to replace the bounty of our world with a scarcity economy. We’ve collectively allowed ourselves to be lulled by these greedy people. From the past right through to present day, we’ve listened to those who had only there own greed at heart. We’ve been convinced slowly and incrementally that somebody else’s ideas were in our own best interest.

In short, we were complacent. I’m just as guilty as anyone else. It’s much easier to be complacent and so much harder to stick out your neck. Most of us are struggling with the complexity of our lives and just want to keep our heads down. What’s the Japanese saying – the nail that sticks up gets hammered down?

It’s easier if we don’t stand up for what we believe in. But It’s better for all of us if we do.

Our collective unconscious is full of stories that exonerate the one who stands for their beliefs. Just look at all the feel good movies about a bully and a hero. It’s time we – each of us – took some time and energy to stick up for our beliefs and push back those who would inexorably crush us.

Our world will be a better place for all of us if we have the courage to take a stand for what we believe in and put greed aside. I think we’re improving. I’m proud to say, I see an increasing number of people acting civil and generous.

You must stand tall. This is the lesson of our collective unconscious.
