Had some visualizations on how to approach the Intersection project. Generally, I like to make long exposures and I often use pinholes, but this time was thinking – something a little more stuttered. They may be long exposures also but I think I’ll layer a collection of exposures on top of each other. This way I can gather a greater time frame and have finer control over the movement.

Things to experiment with, but meanwhile I’m still collecting images for Sidelong – the pastel variation

I’ve been contemplating my next project for a while now. It’s a long anxious process, but this morning while observing an intersection on Dundas west – the same one I’ve been seeing weekly for two months, I began to consider intersections as a potential point of interest. More activity occurs at an intersection than elsewhere on a street. There’s an interesting pattern, a rhythm to intersections that might be revealing.

It’s reminded me of past intersection observations I’ve made and now I’m considering the possibilities.

This morning I was considering what shape my next project might be. While I’m still very much interested in the intersection of time and rhythm I’m not certain how else to address them. They’re both fairly abstract concepts photographically and well, the resulting five bodies of work have been abstract too.

I’ve long been drawn to another form of intersection – which I’ve mentioned in the past as Alignment – when disparate elements unite to form a sum greater than the parts. This too is time based in that it can only happen at the right moment and is typically fleeting. I consider Alignment part of the quantum universe – ie when not observed it’s doesn’t necessarily happen but rather is a probable outcome. Photographically, Alignment is both figurative and representative but usually not thematically bound – therefore difficult to gather into a full complement.
